Principal's Message

October brought a wonderful blend of focus and fun, connection and celebration to Northside! Teachers have established strong classroom routines, are using beginning-of-year assessments to guide instruction, and have partnered with families during parent-teacher conferences. There is no substitute for a strong home-school connection. Thank you, parents and families, for continually showing up for our BEARS and modeling the importance of a high-quality education.

October offered plenty of moments to spotlight! All students enjoyed two STEAM-focused assemblies, Heidi Aquino’s class visited the State Capitol, and our TK–1 students experienced the fun of a GLOW Party. Students also elected their student council representatives. Our school community came together for the annual Jog-A-Thon, Heart of Cool Run, Community Night Out, and Walk to School Costume Parade.

As always, it’s great to be a BEAR!

Jog-A-Thon

It is always a joy to watch our BEARS run their hearts out on Jog-A-Thon Day! It takes a village to make this event happen, and we are grateful to our PTA for organizing a fun, motivating day that encourages students to give every lap their best. Their hard work is rewarded with a snow cone and, for some, a classroom pizza party!

The Jog-A-Thon is our biggest PTA fundraiser of the year, and it did not disappoint! With support from class funds, private sponsors, and individual donors, we surpassed our $20,000 goal. Four classes each raised over $2,000, earning classroom pizza parties: Mrs. Todd’s, Mrs. Loder’s, Mrs. Woodard’s, and Mrs. Saul’s.

Our top individual fundraisers were Hendrix Hoeppner and Briggs Durate. Both will get a turn as Principal for the Day while I put my feet up! Thank you to our students, families, PTA, and supporters for making this year’s Jog-A-Thon a success!

Staff Spotlight ~ Marcie Durham

Ms. Marcie is a perfect example of how one person can positively impact school climate and culture. With her sunny disposition and welcoming demeanor, she dresses up as a bus on Fridays and encourages students to “bus a move!” She plays music and invites students to show off their best dance moves. Her enthusiasm is contagious as students, staff, and parents boogie into the final stretch of the week.

Thank you, Marcie, for going out of your way to bring smiles to our BEARS!

Ryder Paulson SOM

Student Spotlight ~ Ryder Paulson

Ryder Paulson shows us what responsibility looks like every day! His teacher, Mrs. Loder, shared many examples of why Ryder is a responsible student. "Ryder remembers to bring the ticket tub to Town Hall and is always willing to lend a helping hand in his classroom.  Ryder takes responsibility for his learning by staying engaged, listening carefully, and participating in lessons. His enthusiasm for learning sets a wonderful example for his classmates.  Ryder’s responsibility also shines through in his friendships. He cares about his friends and their feelings and understands that being responsible includes treating others with kindness."

Thank you, Ryder, for being someone we can count on!

Classroom Connections

Our Northside BEARS enjoyed two engaging push-in assemblies this week! Music on the Divide sponsored a visit from talented singer-songwriter Rita Hosking. Rita shared personal anecdotes about discovering her singing voice while waiting at the bus stop before school, reminding students that music and lyrics live within all of us.

Our PTA also treated students to a STEAM assembly that brought science to life through humor, magic tricks, and experiments. Thank you to Music on the Divide and our PTA for bringing these enriching experiences to our BEARS!

Northside Girls Cross Country

Cross Country Final Results

The Northside BEARS finished strong at the El Dorado County Finals this season! Our fifth-grade girls earned second place as a team. Team MVPs Lesley Gomez-Lopez and Wyatt Mills also shined: Lesley placed fifth overall, and Wyatt earned second place in the sixth-grade boys’ category. Longevity awards went to Easton Stanhope, Amirah Montgomery, and Mateo Landaverde.
With an impressive roster of 42 runners, Northside had the largest team in the county! Congratulations to all our runners on a season of hard work, perseverance, and BEAR pride!
Wak to School

Walk to School

Northside celebrated Walk-to-School Day a little differently this year! Due to road construction, we moved the event to October 30 and turned it into a Halloween parade. It was a joy to see so many families in costume, enjoying a brisk walk back to campus together. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this a meaningful event!
